London 2012 Olympics: Living The Games #14—My Spectating

This is going to be my last post in my Living The Games series for a bit.  I plan to write a few more in September, to coincide with the Paralympics and also hopefully to share a few more thoughts on aspects of the games I haven’t touched on… (I know, right? It is hard […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living The Games #13 – The Olympic Village

I know, I know.  Will this series ever end?  I always said that I had a few more blog posts to do AFTER the closing ceremonies, things that I didn’t get a chance to write about because I was just so busy living the games.  This is the penultimate post on my Olympics experience.  I […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living the Games #12 – My Training

One of the questions sent my way during my “Living the Games” series about life in London during the Olympics was: “What about *your* training?” Yes, I know.  My training. I was lucky in that I had structured my season so that my August race would be a race I was doing for experience – […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living the Games #11 – All About The Fans

So the Olympics are over, nearly three weeks of sport and euphoria ended on Sunday as the last fireworks dimmed over the stadium in Stratford.  Lots of accolades have sounded about how great the Gamesmaker volunteers were at the Olympics.  But, as a Gamesmaker, I have to turn that accolade around. For me, the games […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living The Games Diary #10 – The End…

Last night marked the closing ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics.  When I woke up this morning, it all seemed a dream… Had I really volunteered on the triathlon and road cycling race courses? Did I really see the opening ceremony dress rehearsals? Had I really whiled away some good hours over rum and jerk […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living The Games Diary #9 – Friday Foto

The games are nearing an end.  My time as a gamesmaker volunteer finished on Tuesday, and I have been and will be in spectator mode until Saturday.  Sunday I plan on watching the closing ceremony from my sofa – in the comfort of my own home, and off my feet.  I have clocked so many […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living the Games Diary #8 – A Golden Day at Triathlon

Yesterday marked my last shift as a Gamesmaker – a volunteer at the London 2012 Olympics.  I spent the day at Hyde Park working the men’s triathlon race – alongside nearly 500 other volunteers on the sports side of the organisation, and nearly 2000 people (the vast majority volunteers) working at Hyde Park. At the […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living the Games Diary #7 – Hyde Park Live

All across the UK there are giant viewing screens set up to allow the general public to gather for free to view events.  I was talking with my neighbour who used to be the CEO of one of the host boroughs (local authorities with venues located in their area) and he explained to me that […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living The Games Diary #6 – On the Triathlon Course

Saturday was the women’s triathlon race at the Olympics.  My penultimate shift as a Gamesmaker. A lot of people have asked me what it means to work an event at the Olympics – what I do, what time I start, who I get to meet… The women’s triathlon start was at 9am London time.  Our […]

London 2012 Olympics: Living The Games Diary #5 – Friday Foto

It is all about the Olympics for us at the moment.  Us and about 1 billion other people in the world! The one thing that I’m finding the most disturbing – at least from a sleep perspective on those days when I am actually able to “sleep in” – is the helicopter sound.  From about […]

What is Charcot Marie Tooth

CMT, or Charcot Marie Tooth disease, is a progressive degenerative disease of the nerves. Caused by genetic anomalies, CMT impacts 1 in 2500 people, including me. It impacts each person differently. In general, CMT impacts the way the nerves transmit signals to muscles, leading to muscle atrophy, reduced sensation, and muscular imbalance. Efforts are underway to find a cure for CMT - by clicking on the CMTA STAR Appeal button above, you can help by contributing vital funds which will be used to support ongoing research and testing for a cure.
