Thursday Thought: The Road To Success

Getting back into things after holidays is always tough.  I find myself clinging onto the relaxed feeling I found after two weeks of down time.  I was so lucky to spend the end of my summer outside, active, and with a permanent glow of happiness.  Laughter comes a bit easier now, and work stress seems absent.

Things are absolutely crazy for me at work – but I am loving it.  Lots of new projects to work on, travel to new countries in my future (South Korea here I come!), and I was lucky enough last night to join into an industry social event.  I rarely join the events in the summer, but with fall and a little down time before my half marathon training kicks off, it seemed the perfect way to spend an evening.

One of my friends addressed the audience – always a tough role in the middle of a champagne reception.  She did a great job, keeping things light while announcing the industry finalists for an annual award which is presented in December.  She sprinkled a few quotes and thoughts through her speech, and one really stuck with me:

“The road to success is always under construction…”

YES!  I think this is true for so many aspects of my life.  Professionally we never sit around complacent – we always look for the next opportunity to create or the next piece of our business to build.  Personally when it comes to triathlon, I am always looking for the next challenge or improvement I can make to my performance.  With my relationships I always try to remember that friends and family should never be taken for granted, that relationship too are beautiful constructions not meant to be neglected but to be worked on and developed…

What quote, song, piece of art, or book has resonated recently with you?

  1. Hi Donna,

Your post really resonated with me. Must be the time of year. Lately, I’ve been thinking about my parents & their life. My father always had some project going so my mom lived their entire marriage with some part of the house under construction. I’m much like my old man only instead of taking it out on the house I take it out on myself. Lately I’ve had Robert Frost’s “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening” in my head. I so want to turn things off but I can’t because I’ve miles to go before I sleep.

Thanks for the post. Always great keeping up with you.

    warm regards,
    jeff
