The House of an Endurance Athlete…

A few week’s ago we had friends over for a barbecue.  At the end of the evening, one of my friends pulled me aside and asked “What is that *thing* in your dining room?”

“Um, that?  That is my bike trainer stand.  I took my bike out to make room for everyone.”

Yes, my bike is normally in my dining room. Except when we have company.

That conversation, along with Jason’s blog, got me thinking – what signs do we leave around our house that show we both are in training for this season’s triathlons?

Is it the never empty bowl(s) of fruit?

Or the endless pile of athletic clothing (both clean and dirty)…

Could it be the bags full of training kit always ready by the front door?

Or the wetsuits hanging in the bathroom…

Is it the countless water bottles that now number so many that they no longer fit in the cupboard?

Or the finisher medals that have finally found a home (in the closet – the “water closet” that is!)

Everywhere I look there are signs that we have morphed into weekend warriors, triathletes in training.

My Oakleys are staring at me… Even they know that this is true!

  1. My trainer is now in my bedroom, but it has lived in the living room before. There is usually a bike in the dining room as well as my bedroom. And of course there are goggles, caps, shoes, helmet glasses….. in and out of bags on the counter. Gee I better clean up!

  2. Bike lube by the front door and also in the car. We have a home trackpump and one for the car too!! Oh and wet wipes in the car are also really useful after a muddy mountain bike ride.
Oh and the turbo trainer is no longer in the kitchen as a few years ago I stubbed my toe on it and broke my foot = oops!

  3. Love it.  The trainer in the dining room.  Hilarious!

Water bottles everywhere.  Have to smell them to see if they were clean and dirty since they are all over the house.

  4. Trainer in my bedroom. Far less water bottles in my house – I keep loosing them. As of this current moment in time, I have *two* pairs of bathers hanging in my bathroom and a bag of pool toys (pull buoy, fins, paddles etc) on the couch.

Evidence I’ve seen in other people’s houses: having road bike + TT bike (or multiples thereof!)

  5. I love everyone’s answers! Right now we have random “triathlete books” all over the house too… We also have swim caps on windowsills, randomly we even have a men’s TYR carbon top that needs returning (didn’t fit right) on the kitchen counter too. I’m glad to see we aren’t alone in this madness!
